Golden Plains Sixx

Cruising into the Meredith supernatural amphitheater, I’m pretty excited. I’ve heard about Meredith like it’s some kind of mythical musical paradise. I’ve cruised through the front gates with minimal fuss, parked the camper and put some of my beers in the fridge (it’s BYO by the way). I Grabbed my Girlfriend, a picnic rug, a six pack of Melbourne bitter dolphin killers and set down for the days activities, um drinking and chilling. While the first bands played, I checked out the main and only stage, There’s massive trees and people every where chilling on lounges and chairs with their esky’s. The vibe is already awesome and it’s hardly begun. The first band I really check out were TOTAL CONTROL who were real dope and super tight. Then REAL ESTATE continued the vibe. I cruised around for a while eating some mad burgers form the beatbox kitchen and some James squire cans from the bar. Next up is ARIEL PINK”S HAUNTED GRAFFITI who played even better than last time I saw them and was super fun. BON IVER was well ok, I wasn’t blown away but neither disappointed and this finished of the night for me, I was pretty loose after a full day of drinking. I did wake up around 2am for a wee to hear SEAKAE absolutely killing it, which was later reported to be one of the better sets of the festival. The Sunday was the day with the best line up, so I’m still pretty excited even with a hangover, i get some breaky at Erics terrace bar, and stay there for a few beers while checking out fun sets from FIRST AID KIT and ENDLESS BOOGIE. SASKWATCH a band with a horrible name blew me away with a big band funk vibes. Next up was ROKY ERICSON who was amazing and one of the best sets of the festival. ROOTS MANUVA did his best to disappoint me again, I love the guy but I just don’t want to hear his average new stuff. All is forgotten when CHARLES BRADLEY and his extraordinaires hit the stage. Man this guy can put on a show, in my opinion the best of the festival. Bradley’s Voice is so strong and every thing is sung with so much passion, plus his band is tight. This was amazing and I’m sure he copped plenty of boots held high. Black LIPS were fun as expected but by now I’m freezing, Had a few to many cans and waiting for CHIC feat NILE RODGERS to hit the stage. NILE RODGERS was amazing, so much fun, so many amazing songs, such a good vibe and a perfect way to finish the festival off. Golden Plains is by far one of the best run festivals I have ever been to in Australia, the compost toilets are clean and there’s little rubbish lying around (Due to the House keeping where everyone gets up and picks up rubbish). The BYO policy means everyone is sitting around chillin, instead of sitting in their campsite drinking smuggled in smirnoff or lining up for beers. Beers were cheap and had a good quality selection for a festival ($7 for a Boags or James Squires). It does all this with no sponsors at all, Over all it’s a mad vibe and hopefully I will be returning soon to visit Aunty Meredith and the supernatural amphitheater.
