The Memphis-based musician Jay Reatard has died, aged 29.
His label Goner Records posted the news with the following statement:
"It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our good friend Jay Reatard. Jay died in his sleep last night. We will pass along information about funeral arrangements when they are made public."
Born Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., Jay Reatard came up through the Memphis garage rock scene and released more than a dozen solo and band albums over the past decade.
He's perhaps best known for the solo albums Blood Visions (2006) and Watch Me Fall (2009) which were released on the Matador label. In 2008 he released the 7" single 'See Saw'.
Jay Reatard has toured Australia twice, most recently as part of the Laneway Festival in February 2009.
He will be missed by music fans around the world.
