The people behind an alleged $600,000 hydroponic cannabis operation in western Sydney had been stealing electricity to turn over "a crop of marijuana a month", police said. While the front rooms of the house was preserved as living space, officers allegedly found 172 cannabis plants growing in the back section, along with 10kg of dried cannabis leaf, a stash of chemicals to hasten the crop's growth, and a complex ventilation system to disguise its pungent odour.
"There's a diversion in place to divert power around the fuse box, out ot the power boards, down to transformers and then down to the lights. A backyard sparky wouldn't set one of these things up."
